Chinese New Year (CNY) is a national holiday in Malaysia that usually falls in January or February. It is also known as the Lunar New Year or Spring Festival, as it marks the beginning of spring in the Chinese lunar calendar. Each year is associated with one of the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac.

It is an important 15-day festival in Chinese culture. Common celebrations include family reunion dinners, receiving ang pow (red packets of money), and festive feasts accompanied by lion dances.
